ChatGPT advertising growth: 5,535 advertisers to date
A snapshot of the ChatGPT ad base: top spenders, 615 categories, and who's joining or stepping back.
As of August 2026, our rotating crawl of ChatGPT advertising has captured 5,535 distinct advertisers across 615 categories. The base is broad rather than concentrated: the top 15 advertisers account for roughly 25% of all 114,828 placements, with a long tail of small-footprint advertisers making up the rest.
The ChatGPT ad base is broad, not concentrated. 5,535 advertisers have placed at least one ad in our crawl, while the top 15 hold about 25% of all placements.
The cumulative shape of the advertiser base
The numbers above are not a rate. They are a to-date snapshot of every distinct advertiser, ad creative, and prompt category our crawler has observed since we began tracking ChatGPT advertising. Each placement is a single ad impression captured against a real user prompt, so the gap between 5,535 advertisers and 114,828 placements tells you how skewed the long tail is: most advertisers run a small number of placements, while a handful of high-volume accounts rack up the rest. Where the breadth lives: 615 categories
ChatGPT advertising is not a single vertical. Our taxonomy tracks 615 categories carrying at least one ad, with the top 10 by ad volume accounting for about 15,000 of the 17,052 ads we have observed. The shape is heavy at the top: Enterprise & Fintech and SaaS & Productivity lead on ad count, but the long tail runs all the way to Indoor Trampoline Parks and Architectural Salvage & Reclaimed Building Materials. That breadth is the story of the platform so far, more advertisers in more places than the early-2025 launch suggested.

Who's joining the platform
In the last 30 days alone, our crawler logged 2,963 new advertisers that had not previously appeared in ChatGPT ads. These are not all small tests. Lemonade showed up with 124 placements in the window, Darktrace with 71, and Wiz with 69. The entry list spans insurance, cybersecurity, consumer hardware, and HR software, which suggests the platform is being treated as a general-purpose B2B and B2C channel rather than a single-vertical experiment.
Who's stepped back
Churn cuts the other way. 588 advertisers that had previously appeared in our crawl went dark in the same 30-day window, meaning their recent placements fell to zero or near-zero. Some of the platform's largest cumulative accounts sit on that list: Mastercard at 3,490 lifetime placements, Cloudflare at 2,633, and SAP at 1,262. The signal is that early movers are pulling back, even as thousands of new advertisers enter.
We do not have a continuous growth curve for ChatGPT advertising. Our crawler samples the platform on a rotating basis, so the right mental model is a snapshot of the cumulative base, not a weekly growth rate.
What this means for buyers
The takeaway is scale, not trajectory. The advertiser base is wide, base-heavy, and being refreshed continuously, with thousands of new names entering every month and a few hundred going dark. If you are weighing whether to advertise on ChatGPT, the question is not whether the channel is growing in some abstract sense, but whether your category is already crowded. The niche library and the advertiser directory let you answer that in a few clicks, and Intelligence keeps the data fresh.
