ChatGPT Marketing Ads Are Pure Test Mode. Here's Who's Testing.

ZoomInfo leads ChatGPT marketing ads with 51 placements, but 192 advertisers are splitting 715 placements, and AI-native vendors are out-advertising legacy martech incumbents like Hootsuite.

The biggest buyer in ChatGPT's marketing-and-advertising niche is ZoomInfo, a B2B sales-intelligence vendor most consumers have never heard of. Its 51 placements outpace the next bidder by 1.4x, and the rest of the leaderboard looks nothing like a normal marketing channel.

AI-native and data-infrastructure vendors now out-advertise the legacy marketing SaaS that would, by category right, own this audience. The top three advertisers combined hold just 15.53% of placements.

They outnumber the legacy marketing SaaS that would, by category right, own this audience. The category leader in social media marketing is being out-advertised on its own surface by companies whose entire product is the AI shift.

The deeper structural story is fragmentation. 192 advertisers split 715 placements, and 182 of them sit outside the top ten. Even the niche's largest semantic cluster, 'social media, social, media, content creation,' with 48 ads from 19 advertisers, sits well below the leaderboard's totals. Almost nobody is committing real budget; almost everybody is testing the channel.

Two signals confirm the testing posture. The top prompts include 'Best tool to track brand mentions in ChatGPT', so advertisers are bidding on the very trend they are part of. And the campaign names read like SKU codes: ZoomInfo's APIMCP, Sendinblue's 'BRV_EN_USA_OAI_General_mCPC', Answering Service Care's two 'AnsweringServiceConversions' variants. None look like martech flagship campaigns.

The first vendor to commit real budget to one specific sub-cluster wins this surface before the test-budget crowd turns into a bidding war.
