Angi takes 40% of ChatGPT Home Services ads as HVAC brands sit out
Angi owns 40.5% of ChatGPT Home Services placements, while named local HVAC and plumbing operators hold just 2 of 42 and MRCOOL is the only HVAC brand with meaningful share at 9.52%.
As of July 2026, Angi holds 17 of 42 ChatGPT ad placements in Home Services, a 40.5% share that outranks the next nine advertisers combined. Container home and off-grid prompts drive the surface, which is why a marketplace, not a local HVAC or plumbing operator, leads the leaderboard.
5 of the 6 top triggering prompts in Home Services are about container homes, shipping containers, or off-grid utilities, while named local HVAC and plumbing operators in the share data hold only 2 of 42 placements combined.
Angi does not sell HVAC or plumbing, yet it owns the surface. The reason is structural: its offer is a marketplace, so when a user asks about container home utility hookups or septic retrofits, Angi's broad answer absorbs the impression regardless of which sub-cluster the prompt actually belongs to. Every adjacent home services question funnels into the same ad, which is how one brand ends up outranking the nine specialists shown below it in a pool this thin.
What Home Services buyers actually ask ChatGPT
Five of the six top triggering prompts in Home Services reference container homes, shipping containers, or off-grid utilities. Only one, 'which tools help HVAC plumbing and electric companies grow revenue', is a generic contractor question, and the buyers asking about container home cooling are not the buyers a generic service ad was written for.
MRCOOL is the rare product-fit match in this surface. Its mini-split systems are the literal answer to 'What HVAC system is best for a small container home', and it is the only HVAC-first brand with meaningful share at 4 placements. The local operators who think they own this category, Roto-Rooter and Golden West, together hold 2 of 42 placements in a niche named for them. Half Moon Plumbing and Electric runs a campaign reaching these prompts, but does not appear in the placement share data, a gap that underscores how thin local participation is on the surface.
The niche's category boundary is currently porous. Angi, SoFi, Ring, Home Depot, and CLADIATOR all appear in Home Services placements, a sign that topical targeting on the supply side is weak and that the surface is absorbing a wide mix of advertisers rather than filtering to true HVAC and plumbing operators.
What this means for HVAC and plumbing advertisers
The strategic opening here is not to outbid Angi on broad service keywords. Angi already absorbs everything, and fighting a marketplace head-on in a 42-placement pool is expensive. The higher-return play is to pick a defensible sub-cluster, container home mini-splits, off-grid septic, modular retrofits, and map the creative and offer to the specific prompts the incumbents have not yet recognized. MRCOOL's 9.52% share is the proof of concept. The brands that match the actual prompts will own the channel before the incumbents realize the room has already filled up.
