As of July 2026, ChatGPT's cloud storage and backup niche runs on 85 placements across 33 advertisers, and the four consumer backup brands users name most hold zero of them. Supply is fragmented, demand is brand-led, and that gap will not survive the quarter.

The consumer backup demand surface on ChatGPT is essentially unowned by the brands users name in their queries. Backblaze, iDrive, Carbonite, and pCloud together hold 0 of 85 placements, even though one or more of them is named verbatim in 7 of 14 captured top prompts.

Virtru's 12 placements all come from a single campaign, CGPT_NB_Product_Collaborate, an unusually concentrated buy where one product line carries the entire top-of-funnel presence for the niche. That posture is fragile: if the campaign pauses, the named leader evaporates. Behind Virtru, the rest of the leaderboard is enterprise-security and managed-services vendors (Crowdstrike, Arctic Wolf, Zip Security, MSPBytes, AFI Technologies) layering adjacent intent rather than covering the comparison queries users actually run.

amazon photos vs icloud for family photo sharing
aws s3 object lock vs backblaze b2 immutable for backup vaults

backblaze b2 vs wasabi for media team storage costs
backblaze personal backup for large video files

Of the 14 top prompts, 8 name a specific brand, and 7 of those name one of the four consumer backup brands users compare most: Backblaze, iDrive, Carbonite, or pCloud. None advertises on ChatGPT. This is a near-zero-competition auction on queries users are running right now, from 'backblaze vs idrive for unlimited backup of my laptop' to 'best cloud backup for wedding photographers with raw files.' The consumer backup lane will not stay open through the quarter.

For consumer backup brands: own one sub-cluster of intent now, since most of the remaining 23 advertisers share just 27 placements outside the top 10 and a focused buy outflanks a broad budget. For enterprise security vendors already in: sharpen targeting, because the share you are buying is visibility on queries that mostly are not yours. For evaluators: price in the 17.65% Unknown bucket before extrapolating any competitor's share, because every competitive figure in this niche is a lower bound.
